I've just finished a live interview on BBC Radio Scotland. There was a story in this morning's papers about how many more people are going away on holiday without their partner.
A healthy relationship depends on each of you having your own individual interests as well as those that you share with your partner. So together you might enjoy beach holidays and city-breaks, but he might want to go rock climbing and she might want to take a weekend break to paint watercolours. Or visa versa. You have to be able to trust the other person, which is the key to a stable and strong relationship.
So please do things together, and have some me-time too. That's a healthy and happy relationship.

Banterdate - Something New, Something Exciting
Really pleased and honoured to be involved in an an exciting and revolutionary internet dating site, Banterdate.
What really excites me is that it removes one of the great mysteries or internet dating - what are they actually going to be like when you meet them?
Most dating sites let you see a picture, read their profile and chat to them on line. But they don't let you see what they're really like and how they react until you actually meet them.
Banterdate is different because you can watch them spontaneously responding to questions and comments. Banterdate is like meeting for real.
Why don't you check it out at www.banterdate.com

Last Two Places on Flirting Safari
There are only two places left on my next Flirting Safari in London on 29th October. So go to www.thedatingdoctor.co.uk/news/events to find out more and book your place.
It's a unique experience to develop and practise your chat-up skills with complete strangers. You will be with a handful of people who, under my guidance, will practice how to approach and talk to people in city centre shops.
We will meet at 11:30am with a coffee and briefing. I will give you some tips on how to approach and talk to strangers and after about half an hour you will hit the streets. We will 'work' the shops in Oxford Street for a couple of hours with personal coaching from myself. We finish with a drink and debrief in a local bar. You are then free to shop and practise at your leisure.
Go to www.thedatingdoctor.co.uk/news/events to book your place.
Hope to see you there.

Get Better at Internet Dating
Last week I did a 20-minute radio interview on BBC Radio Scotland on how to write a winning Internet dating profile.
I even prepared the bones of a tag-line and profile for one of the presenters from 20 words that she emailed to me the evening before the interview.
To find out how to get the most from the time you spend on Internet dating check out my pocket book and coaching services at www.thedatingdoctor.co.uk/books/

Seven Steps to Detect a Lie
It takes two people to make a lie work, one to say the untruth and the other to accept it as true. Here's seven steps to help you work out whether what they're telling you is the whole truth.
1. Suppress your own emotions and thoughts, just observe and listen.
2. Notice any physiological signs of nerves - sweating, fast shallow breaths, dry mouth, fidgets, hand wringing, lack of concentration.
3. Observe their hand and eye movements - hand to face, stiff movements, eyes looking down, staring.
4. Listen to the tone of their voice - quivering, flat and monotone, stilted and rehearsed, formal ("do not" rather than "don't"), garbled.
5. Think about what they're saying - sounds too good to be true, too much detail (long list of facts), long winded, disclaimers ("let me assure you"), finished with an afterthought ("and by the way").
6. Pause when they've finished and watch for their tension release.
7. Challenge them and see how they react - defensive posture, partial shrug, false smile, humour or sarcasm, mumble, indignant ("don't be ridiculous"), incredulous ("I'd never lie to you").

Why Flirting Makes Men Feel Good
Researchers in London recently conducted an experiment to see if men experienced the boost observed in animals known as "mating response".
They put a third of 149 male students aged between 18 and 24 in a room to talk to a 25-year-old male researcher, while the rest spoke to one of seven female students aged 18 to 22.
The men who'd talked to a woman showed, on average, a 14 percent increase in their testosterone levels, while their cortisol levels were up 48 percent. These are the hormones that are associated with alertness and wellbeing.
